  1. Burke is so sterile and industrial. The lighting is painful and lends a hospitally atmosphere to the building. The entire building could be made to look more traditional like the rest of Hamilton's buildings, but that's probably another problem.

    In terms of study spaces, I think the key is softer lighting, and nicer furniture. The only comfortable chairs in the library (the cushiony brown ones that sat on the second floor and overlooked the entryway) are gone now! The wooden chairs are in the catacombs are terrible. They're so heavy! You can't scoot back in them when you want to get up!

    There is certainly a need to accommodate as many students as possible, but something nice could be done with the cubicles on the far side of the Couper classroom. I also think that more open space is conducive to a productive environment for all. Nicer, darker-looking tables with individual lamps, rather than blanket overhead lighting would soften the atmosphere.

    More bathrooms, too!
